The Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa is an offspring of the Saint Luc School of Gombe Matadi created in 1943 in the province of Bas-Congo by the Reverend Brother Marc Stanislas WALLENDA, Belgian missionary of the congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
Currently, the Academy of Fine Arts has two sections in its organisation of studies. The plastic arts and the graphic arts, both at the graduate level (bac + 3 years) and license (bac + 5 years).
The Plastic Arts Section comprises five departments: sculpture, ceramics, painting, metalwork and the conservation & restoration of works of art. The Graphic Arts Section has four departments: interior design, visual communication, design and photography.
In addition, the Establishment has a school of application organising the artistic humanities called the Institute of Fine Arts.
