Our Lady of Wisdom University Parish (NODASA) has existed since the founding of Lovanium University in January 1954.
After the University was nationalised by Mobutu’s regime in 1971, it continued its pastoral activities of a normal way. The parish is both territorial and personal. It covers the territory of the University Campus. It is part of the Doyenné Notre Dame de la Sagesse. It is a parish of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa.
By virtue of its personal parish status, all professors and students of the University of Kinshasa and the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques (I.S.T.M.), wherever they are, can appeal to the pastoral ministries of NODASA.
It therefore concerns about 46 000 people: 34 000 students, of whom more than 6 000 are housed in student residences, and 8 000 teachers, wives and children, including about 4 000 residents on the territory of the parish itself.
This is a large church in the middle of the University Campus with more or less 1 300 seats. It has the shape of a fish: the “Ichthus” of the first Christians. It was built in 1957 and consecrated in 1959. Its construction was entirely financed by donations from generous benefactors from Congo and Europe.
Cost: $45
